Overview

A quiet documentary short, filmed over one harvest, about a landscape that turns from pink to white in a week.

A horizon with no doors

The salt flats have no walls and no edges, so the film is built around the one man-made line in the landscape: a raised track that runs to the horizon.

We filmed at first light for six weeks. Sound was recorded separately and the score is only footsteps, wind and rakes.

Grading for pink

The water in the pans turns pink for a few days each year. We graded the film to keep that colour honest, not bright, so the last shot, when the pans are dry and white, still feels earned.
